ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY OF THE ZORPAS GROUP

Zorbas Group has been operating in Cyprus since 1975 and today is one of the largest business groups in the country, with its activity being the production, distribution, and sale of fresh bakery, confectionery, food, and coffee products.

The Group’s operation is aligned with the international standards, ISO 9001, ISO 22000, BRC, IFS, SQMS, and ISO 45001, and fully harmonised with the Cypriot legislation.

Zorbas Group recognises the need to protect the environment for future generations and incorporates environmental standards and criteria into its business processes, developing strategies for a greener world.

As part of its commitment to continuously reduce the environmental impact that may arise from its operations, it sets improvement targets, implements and evaluates environmental management actions, and provides the necessary resources to continuously improve its performance. It shall simultaneously participate in energy saving, food waste reduction management, waste management, and total recycling programmes.

The Group is committed to:

  • Provide necessary resources to implement and improve the environmental management system,
  • Provide the necessary resources to implement the measures to improve the environmental management of the company, including the provision of the resources to improve the efficiency of its operations,
  • Establishment of environmental objectives and systematic monitoring of their implementation,
  • Raising awareness and informing staff of their responsibilities per the Environmental Management System.

The environmental policy is available to all stakeholders (employees, customers and suppliers of the company, governmental bodies, residents, public) and is applied by all employees of the Group.

It is monitored through regular reviews by the Department of Management and the relevant department of the Zorbas Group to confirm its appropriateness and effectiveness. This policy is updated and revised as appropriate.

ORGANIC WASTE MANAGEMENT POLICY

Zorbas Group started operating in Cyprus in 1975 and today is one of the largest business groups in the country, with its main activity being the production, distribution, and sale of fresh bakery, confectionery, food, and coffee products.

The Group’s operation is adapted to the international standards ISO 9001, ISO 22000, BRC, IFS, SQMS, and ISO 45001 and fully harmonised with the Cypriot legislation.

Zorbas Group recognises the importance of social contribution and the need to protect the environment for future generations, incorporating environmental and social criteria in its business processes. At the same time, it develops strategies for the food produced for human consumption, and at the end of the day, it ends up in losses/organic waste.

As part of its commitment to continuously reduce the environmental impact that may result from its operations, it sets improvement targets and adopts actions to prevent and reduce food waste.

In particular, the Group:

  • Αcts to reduce the production of food waste,
  • Acts to monitor the quantity of food waste,
  • Works with food supply chain operators and social organizations to make use of leftover food through the “Social Food Donation” initiative,
  • Operates a platform for food donation (FoodPrint),
  • Provides food to animal shelters, farms, piggeries, etc,
  • Works with an organic waste treatment plant in Athienou, Cyprus,
  • Collaborates with Cypra company, which undertakes the collection, transport, and delivery of organic waste to the biological station of aerobic and anaerobic. From the waste treatment is produced biogas, used for green electricity production by the company.

The environmental policy is available to all interested parties (employees, customers and suppliers of the company, state bodies, residents, public) and is applied by all employees of the Group.

It is monitored through regular reviews by the Management, and the relevant Group department, to confirm its appropriateness and effectiveness.

This policy is updated and revised as appropriate.
